The Ishmael Spirit in the American Home

He shall be a wild man; his hand shall be against every man, and every man's hand against him. And he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren (Genesis 16:12).

A portrait of the American family could be the central feature in a history museum a hundred years from now—if the present deterioration of the family continues. The God-ordained family unit was the Almighty's method of passing blessings from one generation to the next. The breakup of the home creates stress, financial burdens, anger and a generation of youth who often turn against the faith of their parents and grandparents.

A major shortage in America is a daddy shortage. Too many men have gone AWOL from their own children who were born in their image and likeness. The tragedy is that it is the children who suffer.

~ Half of all marriages in America end in divorce.

~ Half of the children in America live with a single parent.

~ Single girls become pregnant and raise the child without the father.

~ Fathers are leaving their families to live a lifestyle of fornication and promiscuity.

When children have no father figure, they will seek something or someone to fill the void. During World War I, millions of young men lost their lives in battle. Children throughout Europe were fatherless and without brothers and cousins. Communism sought to fill the gap as Stalin became the father figure for the masses.

World War II followed as millions fought again throughout Europe. The loss of men created another void in the homes of mothers and wives. Suddenly, Germany became the mother and Hitler the father of a new German race the dictator dreamed of forming. The youth of Germany pledged their souls, bodies and hearts to their new father.

In Islam, a Muslim man can have up to five wives at a time, and as many children as he desires. While the children may call him father, the religion of Islam becomes the actual father of the family. In nations such as Sudan, millions of men have been murdered, leaving behind wives, daughters and children.
